Not too shabby. I will say one thing though, I'm not sure why there's the sound of the ocean at the beginning and end; I don't typically associate that with the forest, although I suppose there are types of forests that grow next to the sea. In general, though, I never really thought forest when I listened to this. Maybe throw in some bird tweets or something. That's just a minor gripe though, I'll move on.
The biggest issue I had was that the electric bass line was somehow off, and kept getting forward on the beat. I'm not entirely sure what went wrong or how you could fix it, but try to make sure that that sound loop or midi file fits perfectly into 1 measure of time in your song. If you copied and pasted it, and the box was slightly shorter than 1 measure on the display of your DAW, over time that would cause a major shift in the song's timing. Maybe it's intentional, and if it is then it's your choice as an artist. Even so, my brain doesn't like it.
As far as things I liked, the drums were tight. I love the use of tambourine, it adds a really groovy feeling, and the snare sample you used was the perfect choice for this type of groove. Also, the synth line that starts at 0:53 sounds great.

Domenstain responds:

Yeah, I have noticed the bass swerving place from time to time, and i kind of got used to it. I suppose i shouldve fixed it, but overall i appreciate your advice :) and thank you as well for your compliments, it really keeps me going :)

Hey, pretty cool! I can't say much for trance as a genre, but this piece in and of itself is one that I kind of like.

BCCB responds:

Wow, I'm not really active on Newgrounds very much, so I really appreciate you taking the time to leave me a review! Thanks, and I'm glad you enjoyed the song. :]

Damn, this is good! Really good! The bass is intense and awesome, and I love the trance square kind of synth melody coming in over the mix. The buildups and breakdowns are superb, the kind that make your blood rush.
What synthesizers were you using?

Kloudtana responds:

I use almost exclusively Harmor nowadays. This song is all Harmor, drum samples, and 3xOsc for the white noise.

It sounds kind of interesting, but you need to actually take the time to make it into a full song. Right now, I can't really tell whether I like it or not, because there's not really anything there to judge. It's just a kick, some wobble bass (that's in a different time signature, just to let your know), and then a pretty cool sounding major trance synth.

EnNinja responds:

Thank you for the great review! Ya I didn't have much time then I made it (because of my parents rules) but in the future I'm going to put down more work on my songs.

This is a very atmospheric piece, and I really feel the cold atmosphere you're trying to produce. I mean, I honestly felt chills while listening to this. That's powerful!

johnfn responds:

chills hah! how appropriate! thanks dude!

Wow. This is original, catchy, and very nicely executed. It's very exciting and engaging, and though I seem to rarely be particularly impressed by music on NG, this really amazes me. Your use of filters is some of the best that I've heard anywhere in quite some time.
Wonderful!

Smitsy responds:

Thanks man! Glad you like it! Means alot to me ;)

That's hilarious.

MDeBonis responds:

Thanks, Maverickmode!! :)

As an artist, it's good that you're moving away from premade loops/clips. To be completely honest, I did exactly the same thing when I first started making electronic music. But getting out of the habit is a really good thing to do, because it allows your true sound to come forth and show itself.

Is that FL studio you're using?

Matches responds:

Thanks, feels more original when I don't use other peoples beats, hoping to find more people that do it like that. I'm still working on making sick drum beats haven't quite gotten it down yet, practice makes perfect though.

Indeed it is, I only have FL studio 9 at the moment, getting about time to upgrade lol Thanks for the review, I'll keep off the samples as much as possible :]

Wow, that's profoundly beautiful. Well done indeed! Your voice sounds really powerful and pure, and the piano sounds so clear and perfect that I can't decide whether it was played live and recorded with mics or if it's a digital instrument.

ThePotatoCat responds:

Thank you very much!

It's interesting and original, and I like it. I don't think I've heard anything quite like it, and in a world filled with so much electronic music, that's quite the compliment. Just when I think I get what this song is, there's another little surprise coming around the corner.
I will say, one of your cymbal sounds is a little bit annoying and sort of doesn't fit into the mix. Also, it can be a little spazzy/out there at times.
But in general, it's a really nice piece. Well done!

Matches responds:

Thanks for the input, I see what you mean about the cymbals, I'll keep that in mind for next time
